UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A $55 million agreement has been reached between Oneida County and Oneida Indian Nation regarding taxation and land disputes.

The plan starts with a $30 million lump sum put into escrow by the Oneida Indian Nation. This money will be shared by all Oneida County municipalities including all cities, towns, villages and school districts.

Following the lump sum, the Oneida Nation will pay $25 million dollars over a ten year period for county tax stabilization and economic initiatives.

In turn for the payment, Oneida County will remove the legal challenge on the 8,800 acres of Nation land that was put into trust by the Federal Government. The county will also not challenge the request to put more land into trust.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente announced the deal at a press conference at the Oneida County Office Building. He stressed that it was time to end the decade-long litigation and the many years of disputes.
