Fire Crews Cleaning Up After Factory Fire

Laurie Benedict

With the fire completely out at the old Stanton Paper Box Company, crews will now be working to demolish the remains, and investigate how it all started.  This morning, all those asked to evacuate have been allowed to return.  Power was also shut off for sometime, but that has also been restored.

The first call came in around 2:00 yesterday afternoon that flames could be seen billowing out of the old casket factory on West Elm Street.  The five story building is 100 years old and has been vacant for the past two years. It was most recently the home of Stanton Paper Box Company.

One on-looker tell us he's still amazed by what he saw.  Joe Yagoda says, "Within minutes, the whole thing was completely engulfed. It went so quick, so fast, the smoke was pouring out like crazy... it was unbelievable."

City of Oneida Fire Chief Don Hudson said it could take weeks to complete an investigation into the cause due to the size of the building.

No one has been injured in this fire.
