HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former Herkimer Village Police officer has been indicted on one felony and three misdemeanor charges related to missing money from the evidence room at the Herkimer Village Police Department.

Investigator Robert Risi was arraigned on a sealed indictment Wednesday on charges of grand larceny and official misconduct, with respect to $8,733 missing from the evidence room and with petit larceny and official misconduct with respect to the alleged theft of approximately $877 in currency evidence.

The grand larceny charge is a felony; the others are misdemeanors. Risi pleaded not guilty to all the charges in Herkimer County Court.

Herkimer County District Attorney John Crandall says that the money has not been recovered. He says that Risi indicated in a statement to state police that he took the money, and it was gone.

The $8,733 was from the robbery of a Fastrac store. Crandall says the criminal case was completed and when the D.A.'s office directed police to return the stolen cash to the Fastrac store....it was discovered missing from the evidence locker at HPD.

Risi is free after posting $20,000 bail, and is currently suspended without pay from the Herkimer Police Department.
