Fire claims the life of a Herkimer County resident

OHIO, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New York State Police in Herkimer investigated a fatal fire that happened on Hooper Dooper Avenue in the Town of Ohio, New York on Sunday morning. The Poland Fire Department responded to the residence, which was fully involved in flames, and extinguished the fire.

A body located inside the home was removed from the residence and an autopsy is scheduled.

The residence is believed to have been occupied by a single resident. That peson's name is currently being withheld pending notification of family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Poland Fire Department, Kuyahoora Ambulance, New York State Police, and Herkimer County Cause and Origin Team responded to the scene.
