State Senate coup goes back to court
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The weeklong political drama over who is in control of New York's Senate is going back to court.
The first hearing will be in state Supreme Court in Albany on Friday. That is scheduled to be followed by a higher court's review, before an appellate division panel of judges in the afternoon. The Senate's Democratic conference seeks to prove that a power grab on Monday by a coalition of Republicans and two dissident Democrats was illegal. The coalition of a majority of senators contends their actions Monday on the Senate floor were in full accordance with laws and Senate rules. They now hold a slim majority in the 62-seat Senate.
