Police searching for JC Penney Jewelry shoplifter

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - New Hartford Police are looking for a shoplifter who made off with jewelry from the Sangertown Square Mall JC Penney store Monday night around 7:45.

Police say a heavy-set male entered the store, selected some pieces of jewelry and left without paying.
    
Store security caught up with him outside in his car, and while one questioned him, the other went around to take his license number.
    
The man suddenly backed up, striking the officer in the leg.  The officer sustained a minor leg injury and the suspect took off, heading east on State Route 5.

Anyone with information is asked to call patrolman Matthew Sica at 315-724-7111.
