HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The former Herkimer Police Investigator accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the department evidence room was in Herkimer County Court Thursday, but Robert Risi never did see the inside of a courtroom.

He waited in a nearby conference room while the attorneys discussed the case against him in a judge's chambers. Usually the district attorney's office extends a plea offer to a suspect during pre-trial conference, but that didn't happen Thursday.

"Some conversations occurred but there's been no offer extended as far as resolution of the matter," said Herkimer County District Attorney John Crandall. "As of right now, it seems to be headed towards a trial."

Just last week, Herkimer police completed an inventory of the evidence room from which Risi is accused of stealing more than $9000. His attorney is prepared for the case against Risi to grow.

"I've been made aware of the fact that new charges may be placed against the defendant based upon that inventory. That's the extent of any information that's been imparted to me as a result of that inventory," said George F. Aney.

The parties are due back in court in three weeks to let the judge know if they are any closer to resolving the case through a plea offer without going to trial.

At that time, Risi's attorney could file motions, or, requests, on his behalf.
