Vernon teenager flips ATV after driving drunk
VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) - A teenager has been arrested after he drove an ATV while drunk and then crashed it, sending himself to the hospital early Saturday morning. According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Department, 18-year-old David Oakley of Vernon Center crashed his ATV on Norton Road at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Oakley was traveling east when he lost control of the vehicle. Police say that he lost control of the ATV, causing it to leave the shoulder of the road and flip over. Oakley was thrown from the vehicle onto a nearby lawn. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and was treated for several deep lacerations to his head and face along with a hip injury. Oakley reportedly told police that he lost consciousness and that is what caused him to lose control of his ATV. Oneida County Sheriffs later arrested Oakley for driving while intoxicated. He was also issued several traffic tickets for operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating an uninspected motor vehicle, operating an ATV on a public highway, and operating an ATV without a helmet. Oakley is scheduled to appear in Vernon Town Court in July to answer to these charges. Most Popular
