UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Fifty people became citizens of the United States on Friday at a naturalization ceremony at the Oneida County Office Building in the City of Utica.

Immediately following the Naturalization Ceremony, the new American Citizens were eligible to apply for a U.S Passport. A representative from the League of Women Voters was also on hand to register the new citizens to vote.

"Most people who are born here don't realize the freedoms we live with, like I said in my speech, we take all of those freedoms for granted," Oneida County Clerk Sandy DePerno said.

The citizens sworn in came from roughly 30 different countries.

Oneida County holds four ceremonies a year.
