ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The former Westmoreland teacher who gave up his ability to teach in New York State after admitting to an "inappropriate relationship with one of his female students, has now been charged with providing her alcohol at his camp.

State Police have charged Jerry Burlison, 35, of Rome, with one count of Unlawfully Dealing with a Child. Investigators say Burlison gave the alcohol to the 18 year-old student of his at his camp in Lewis on April 12.

Burlison is no longer able to teach in New York State after he admitted to having an "inappropriate relationship" with a female student, according to the New York State Department of Education.

State Education Department Officials said that on June 17, Jerry Burlison surrendered his permanent certificates to teach Health and Business and Distributive Education, and permanently waived his right to re-apply for any teaching or administrative certificate. He admitted that he had an inappropriate relationship with a female student, who was over the age of seventeen, during the 2008-2009 school year.

Burlison's resignation was accepted at a recent school board meeting.

On his Westmoreland Central School teaching website, Burlison said he taught a variety of classes at Westmoreland High School and had knowledge in many different areas such as business, health, and sports.

The Westmoreland Superintendent and School Board President did not return calls.

Oneida County Child Advocacy Center Investigator Kevin Revere said they are not investigating the incident, as the student was 18 years old when the relationship allegedly took place during the 2008-2009 school year.

However, the school itself has said it would be handling its own investigation into the incident, as well as into allegations that a fellow teacher, Robert Mineo, 31, had visited the female student at her place of work in Vernon and tried to coerce her into covering up the relationship.

Burlison is due back in Lewis Town Court to face the Unlawfully Dealing with a Child on July 20th.
