John Healy Trial Coverage

By Laurie Benedict

This afternoon, an Oneida Co. Jury convicted John T. Healy of second degree murder and 18 robbery counts in connection with the 2006 murder of New Hartford police officer Joseph Corr.

The jury deliberated for approximately two hours before announcing its verdict.

The gallery of Corr family members, police officers, and other supporters reacted quietly. However, when Healy was escorted from the courtroom, they applauded, and Healy applauded back at them.

Healy will be sentenced of March 22. He is the first of three suspected robbers to stand trial. Two others, Robert Ward and Marion Pegese, are expected to stand trial later this year.

Healy was accused of being one of four men who robbed the Lennon's W.B. Wilcox jewelry store on February 27, 2006, and led police on a high speed chase. Following a crash at the Kirkland Byrne Dairy, gunman Walter Richardson shot and killed Officer Corr. Testimony showed that Healy was a passenger in Richardson's vehicle. Richardson was killed the next night by U.S. Marshals near Philadelphia.
