SOUTH NEW BERLIN, N.Y. (WKTV) - George Murray from South New Berlin has returned from New York City where he was the focus of last Wednesday's "Hope Week" Day at Yankee Stadium.

Murray was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease almost four years ago. His family had heard of the program, and since George is a lifelong Yankees fan, his wife, Kim wrote a letter, and George was selected to take part.

The HOPE in the HOPE Program stands for Helping Other Persevere and Excel. The Yankees chose five people from across the country to be the five to feature each day of last week. George, his wife Kim and their four year old son were all invited, but what the couple didn't know was that the Yankees planned on having 30 other family members and friends take part as well.

The Murray's met many of the Yankees players. They were given player-led tours of the stadium and received plenty of memorabilia. George says after the game, all of the players came by and gave his family high fives, "when Mark (Texiera) came over to high five us after the game, he took his gloves, gave em to Trey, and says those are for you and then he signed them afterwards."

Yankees Manager Joe Girardi gave George the lineup card he signed that day. George also received a ball signed by his favorite player growing up, Graig Nettles. The whole family was on the Jumbotron all game long. It was George and Kim's 9th anniversary, and a bottle of champagne was in their room, signed by every current Yankees player.

George says the whole trip was a dream come true. He says, "I so appreciate Kim, for seeing it through for me, more for me than her, it just shows, if I'm an amazing man, as some have ventured to say...it's because of an amazing wife, standing by my side."
