NYS Troopers: 11 year old girl dead after car accident on the Thruway (Update)

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - State Police say 11-year-old Mackenzie Garrett of Buffalo was killed late Saturday night when she was ejected from her family's mini-van on the Thruway in the Town of Marcy.

Police said the girl's father was driving the mini-van at the time of the accident, and they believe speed and road conditions were factors in the crash. Four other family members were in the van at the time of the accident, but none of them were hurt.

 

The west-bound lanes between the Utica and Westmoreland exits were shut down for about three hours. Traffic was backed up for miles.

The crash is still under investigation.
