SUNY Chancellor visits HCCC

By By EVAN WHITE

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Nancy Zimpher has been chancellor of the State University of New York and shortly after being named to her post, has traveled the state visiting each of SUNY's 64 campuses.

Monday Herkimer County Community College was on the schedule as Zimpher met with local leaders, faculty, students and community members.
She discussed the recently announced SUNYIT-UAlbany Nanoscience partnership and how it could benefit Herkimer.

Zimpher also addressed plans to improve communication and access to services across campus lines, a problem one faculty member said students have had.

The main focus she says with Herkimer, like many areas is jobs.
"I think there is great deal of interest in Herkimer playing a continued role in economic development and I can tell by the constituents here asking about tech asking about community services, people asking about the arts and how Herkimer can contribute, these are all things I know Herkimer wants to grow and we want to support."

Zimpher's state university tour wraps up this week with a report on her "strategic plan" expected a couple of weeks later.
