SUNY Chancellor completes 64 campus tour; makes plans for SUNY system

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Nancy Zimpher, the new Chancellor of SUNY schools, set out to learn everything about the SUNY campuses this Summer.

Now that her tour of the SUNY system is over, she said she has a plan to improve it.

Zimpher, who visited Herkimer County Community College earlier this week, just finished her 64 campus tour on Thursday. That same day, she announced a few brief ideas that are part of her so-called strategic plan.

Some of Zimpher's concepts deal with employee benefits and college services, and Herkimer County Community College President Ann Marie Murray said that, so far, she likes what she's hearing from Zimpher.

"I think she has a wonderful handle on what the issues are, not only for community colleges but also for university centers and the state," Murray said. "She now has a real feel for the depth of the system."

Zimpher is expected to release a detailed strategic plan for SUNY schools next Spring.
