Ilion Fire Department receives grant for much needed upgrades

ILION, NY (WKTV) - Budget cuts won't be keeping the Ilion Fire Department from getting much needed upgrades, thanks to a $20,000 grant, secured by State Senator James Seward.

The Ilion Fire Department will be putting the money to good use, upgrading their 80 year old bathrooms - repairs they weren't able to fit into the yearly budget. The money comes from state senate funding.

Ilion Fire Chief James Trevitt said he applied for the grant one year ago, and said he was thrilled when Senator Seward called him with the good news last week.

"I'm ecstatic," Chief Trevitt said. "This isn't something I can put in my budget. We were very fortunate."

The Kuyahoora Volunteer Ambulance Corps also got a grant for $15,000 to upgrade their radio equipment, and the City of Little Falls Fire Department got $9,000 to buy new portable pagers.
