Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk held at Masonic Care Community, raises $42,800
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - More than 340 people gathered at the Masonic Care Community on Saturday to walk and raise money in the annual Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Walk. They raised a grand total of $42,800 to fund Alzheimer's care, support and research.
“It is very encouraging that so many people in the Mohawk Valley rose to the challenge in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease at this year’s Memory Walk,” Toni Ann Daley, chief development officer for the Alzheimer’s Association in Central New York. She added, “With funds raised at this year’s walk, the Chapter will provide much needed care and support to people touched by the disease as well as research to fight Alzheimer's disease.” There are as many as 5.3 million people currently living with the Alzheimer’s disease in America. In the Mohawk Valley alone, there are more than 10,800 people with the debilitating disease. According to the association, it is estimated that someone in America develops Alzheimer's disease every 70 seconds, by mid-century someone will develop Alzheimer’s disease every 33 seconds. |
