HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Congressman Michael Arcuri held another town hall meeting Friday on healthcare reform. This meeting was in Herkimer, the sixth one since the debate over healthcare reform started to heat up.
Arcuri's staff believes a healthcare vote may not take place until much later this year, and Congressman Arcuri himself says he still does not know what way he will vote once a bill is drawn up. In the meantime, he says he is still touring the district hoping to hear everyone's concerns.
Like most other meetings, Friday's was filled with plenty of questions from the audience. Many questions dealt with specifics.
"I have one question which I can not answer - how much is this going to cost me," asked on man from Little Falls. "I have a small business with four employees, and I can not afford it."
Arcuri says there are five bills being discussed right now - three in the House, and two in the Senate. The congressman says when he sees a plan in place, he will decide on which way to vote.
Until then, he says, there still remains many unknowns.
"I go to bed one night and I say 'I am going to support it,' and I wake up and read some more things and say 'geez, I don't know if I can support this thing,'" Arcuri said.
The congressman's staff says they hope to squeeze a few more of these meetings in before a vote takes place. Arcuri says they generate so many different ideas.
"In my mind, I say I have heard this positive and that positive, and a couple hours later, I hear this negative and that negative," Arcuri said. "And I go back and forth. That is clearly why I have not taken a position."
