6-year-old killed in Sherrill, suspect to be charged with murder

SHERRILL, N.Y. (WKTV) - A six-year-old girl is dead from stab wounds inflicted by her mother's live-in boyfriend.

Alison Belius, 36, the mother of the victim, awoke around 8:30am this morning to sound of screams coming from her child’s bedroom. According to police, Belius went to their bedroom and found the door barricaded by a dresser. When she gained entry to the room she found her live-in boyfriend stabbing her six-year old daughter Lauren Belius.

Lauren Belius was transported to Oneida City Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.

The suspect, David Trebilcock, 30, reported to be the live-in boyfriend of the victim’s mother, was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with numerous stab wounds. It is unclear if the wounds were self inflicted or occurred when the mother attempted to stop the assault. It's also unclear at this time what happened to trigger the event.

Trebilcock is under guard at the hospital. No report was given by State Police as to the extent of his injuries or his condition. State Police BCI Investigator Capt. Mark Lincoln said that Trebilcock is expected to be charged with Second Degree Murder.

Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara and A.D.A. Dawn Catera Lupi were in attendance at the State Police press conference early this afternoon at Troop D Headquarters in Oneida.

Police say that this morning’s 911 call came from a neighbor when the two other children in the house, ages six and nine, ran across the street to the neighbor’s house to ask for help.

Grief counseling will be made available tomorrow at the E.A. McAllister Elementary School in Sherrill at 10:00am.
