Utican, 60, charged with attempted murder in Grove Place stabbing

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man is facing charges after stabbing another man in the chest on Grove Place.

At about 6 p.m. On Wednesday, September 1, Utica Police responded to a residence on Grove Place regarding a report of a stabbing and located the victim, Thomas Helligas, 47, of Utica, with a single stab wound to his chest.

Helligas told police who stabbed him and was transported by the Utica Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment.

Police located the suspect, James M. Dano, 60, of Utica, and he was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation continued and based on statements and evidence, police charged Dano with second-degree attempted murder.

He also was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
