Woman dead after homicide at police investigator's home

DEERFIELD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Authorities are currently on the scene in Deerfield of an incident that left one woman dead at the Cosby Manor Road residence of a Utica Police Investigator.

The scene was swarming with uniformed police Monday afternoon, and yellow police tape marked off the scene, but there was no word on exactly what had occurred. A "for sale" sign sat outside the residence, with the name "Longo" on the mailbox.

The home, located at 10508 Cosby Manor Road, is listed as that of Joseph Longo. Longo is a police officer with the Utica Police Department. Longo also works as a security guard at Proctor High School.

State Police Captain Francis Coots said that one woman is dead, calling her death a homicide, and one man was sent to the hospital. Coots said he was unaware of the man's status at the time.

Coots said they were not releasing any names of the victims and were processing the body. While he couldn't confirm why Utica Police were on the scene in Deerfield, he did say that it had something to do with why they couldn't release the names of the victims.

A press conference is scheduled for 8 p.m. outside the home. We will be taking that press conference LIVE on WKTV at 8 p.m.

Stay tuned to WKTV for further details as they become available.
