VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) -Minutes before the first golfing group reached their 7:15 tee time, dozens of breast cancer survivors were honored by Turning Stone Officials and the Carol M. Baldwin Foundation.

She spends her time with families coping with breast cancer as well as raising money to research a cure.

"All my money that we raise downstate and up here goes for research and to me this is the only way, we have to find something to stop this," said Baldwin.

This morning hundreds of balloons were released after which time, 18 survivors served as honorary hole captains for round one of the tournament.

Breast cancer is expected to kill 40,000 women this year according to the American Cancer Society though the number of new cases for females has declined.
