Pro golfers relax following final first round

VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) - For many PGA golfers, once they sink their last shot, it is time to wind down. PGA golfer Matt Jones is no exception.

"I will be in the gym with a trainer, and just be in the hotel relaxing," Jones said after he shot a four under first round Thursday at Atunyote.

Jones is one of many golfers who finished up their first round late Thursday in the freezing cold and rain.  Because of the conditions, many of the pros, like Scott Bertchewski, quickly grabbed the players' shuttle and headed to their hotel rooms to thaw out.

"I am going to go get something to eat and and going to go to bed," Bertchewski said.  "I'm trying to get warm, maybe take a hot shower."

Many golfers have been in town since Monday, giving them time to check out the area. Most say they have enjoyed their time in Central New York, and have even taken advantage of what the area has to offer in between rounds.  Many players are staying within walking distance of the Lava night club, and the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.

"I have had a little bit of the casino, but during the tournament I won't," Jones added.

Bertchewski says he also played a little in the casino, but wishes he could do that a bit earlier in the year.

"I love it here," he said. "I think this is my third time here, and I think it is great. I just wish we were here in July."

For most golfers, Friday will be their last night in in town, unless they play well enough to make the cut. If so, they will stay through the weekend.
