UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New York State Department of Labor is expected to award $660,000 in grants for training programs in Oneida, Herkimer and Madison Counties.

Officials made the announcement Thursday at the State Office Building in downtown Utica. $440,000 will be committed to an Emerging and Transitional Workers Project slated to train 200 people in green careers in health care.

The final $220,000 will target 80 youths who are not in school or unemployed known to the investment board as "disconnected."

Colleges such as Mohawk Valley Community College, Herkimer County Community College and Morrisville State will provide training to the 310 trainees.

The program is expected to begin November 15th. MVCC officials say the first project will be a construction project creating housing for homeless veterans.
