New daycare center creating jobs in Boonville

BOONVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A million dollar daycare center is creating jobs in Boonville and allowing parents to remain worry-free while at work.

The almost 7,000 square foot facility will fill the overwhelming need for childcare in the Boonville area. Most of the parents in the North Country actually work in Utica or Rome, meaning they need a safe, quality place to keep their young children while at work.

The Hand-in-Hand Early Childcare Center has hired 17 employees. The facility has been in the works for 5-years, with several bumps in the road along the way.

"Last year, in the fall, when our economy turned south, this board of directors almost decided that maybe we'd fold our cards and not play," said Kathy Lansing, Vice President of the Board of Directors. "But we sat down and had a heart-to-heart conversation. That room, that evening, our board of directors group, we all became friends and decided to dedicate ourselves to making this happen today."

Lansing said they will follow a childcare curriculum and they even separate the children based on their stages in life so they can better care for each individual child.
