Hundreds get bone marrow tested in benefit

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The National Transplant Organization hosted a bone marrow benefit at the Stanwix Veterans and Mens Club in Rome on Sunday in order to promote awareness about the National Bone Marrow Registry.

The event offered bone marrow testing to up to 500 visitors at a discounted price, as well as a live auction, raffles and door prizes.

Despite the fun and games, the organizers made the seriousness of the benefit clear. Linda Desmaris' is one of the organizers and her daughter Kim needs a transplant.

The National Marrow Donor Program says that bone marrow or blood cell transplants could help more then ten thousand children and adults each year.
