DOT: Surveys needed for arterial project

By By EVAN WHITE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Is the proposed $65 million arterial replacement project going to disproportionately impact low-income and minority residents in West Utica?

That is the question the Department of Transportation is trying to answer. 400 surveys were sent out by the DOT in recent months with hopes of gaining more data prior to construction.

DOT officials say the bridge will be replaced regardless of its findings, but small portions of the project such as the planned access road that runs through part of West Utica may be altered.

The deadline for submitting surveys was Monday, October 19, but officials say they will still accept more of them before reviewing the paperwork in November.
