(WKTV) - As the Oneida County Health Department plans a mass immunization of local school children against the h1 n1 virus, they are reaching out to parents to answer questions.

The health department is planning a series of meetings in local schools, beginning November 4th. They're hoping to educate parents about both the seasonal flu and H1N1 virus, and help parents decide whether to immunize their children against both.

Officials with the Oneida County Health Department say such mass immunizations are rare. They say if the swine flu was discovered just a few months earlier...none of these conversations about it would be taking place.

"If H1N1 had been detected say in February, you and I wouldn't be having this conversation right now because the H1N1 vaccine would be incorporated into the seasonal flu shot," says Daniel Gilmore of the Oneida County Health Department.
