Man killed after being hit by car in Herkimer

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A man was killed Saturday after police say he was hit by a car on West German Street in the Town of Herkimer near the village border and then succumbed to his injuries.

Herkimer County Coroner Dan Enea also confirms that a man was killed in the accident.

According to New York State Police, a 47-year-old man walking on West German Street and was hit from behind by a westbound vehicle at around 6:50 p.m.

The victim succumbed to his injuries sustained in the accident.

Enea says the identity of a victim is not being released until proper notification has been made by the New York State Police. New York State Police say the victim's name is not being released pending notification of the next of kin.

An autopsy will be performed on the victim on Sunday at the Little Falls Hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
