Expert: Off-Year elections get a bad rap

By By EVAN WHITE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Central New Yorkers have little in the way of nationally significant races with the exception of the 23rd congressional district match between Democrat Bill Owens and Conservative Doug Hoffman.

With that said, political expert Vincent Casale says that off-year elections - those that don't include presidential elections or congressional (mid-term) elections - get a bad rap.

"Not to take anything away from those national and state issues which are important, but you are taking about providing services right in our neighborhoods," Casale said. "And, of course, the tax levies that go along with those services."

Casale considers voting equally as important, if not more so, because of tax issues and others that impact municipalities and taxpayers directly.
