Salvation Army needs volunteers this holiday seasonHERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Herkimer County Salvation Army kicked off their annual Red Kettle Campaign Saturday at the Hummel's Office Plus. According to officials, this year people are more in need than ever. The organization says they are looking for volunteers to ring the bells this holiday season. The money raised all stays local to help provide needy families with toys for their children for the holidays, and to fund the Army's many programs throughout the year. Captain Steven Griffin, the area Salvation Army Spokesperson said, "It could be you tomorrow. The people that we assist, they're your friends and your neighbors, those are the ones that we're helping. I was born in farm country and raised to always help your neighbor because next time, it might be you." So far, the Herkimer County Salvation Army is well behind its goal of 80 volunteers that are needed to staff their four major locations.
