Point of Distribution drill held at Turning Stone

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - With the swine flu claiming a second victim in Oneida County, officials want to make sure people get themselves vaccinated against the seasonal flu as well.

As part of that effort, a Point of Distribution drill is being conducted Tuesday at the Turning Stone Casino and Resort. More than 530 doses of seasonal flu vaccine were on-hand for anyone 19 years old and up.

According to the Nation's Fire Marshal Terry Winslow, exercises like these help make sure things go smoothly when a real emergency happens, "it's important that we test our capability no matter the emergency whether it be weather related emergency or in this case the seasonal flu, it since that we get an opportunity to do that, come together as an command staff realize what are abilities and our shortcomings are and overcome those."

Winslow expects them to go through all the flu doses available which are being given free of charge.
