Veterans Day takes on new meaning for Oleski Family

FLOYD, N.Y. (WKTV) - For the past seven months, Paul and Theresa Oleski, along with their son Bryce, have been dealing with the loss of their other son - fallen Marine Blaise Oleski - who was killed April 8 fighting in Afghanistan.

It's been a rough road for the Oleskis, but community support has helped the healing process.

"We never know what is going to be on that corner when we come home - bouquets, Christmas trees," Theresa Oleski said.

This year's Veterans Day takes on more significance than any other, for obvious reasons.

"We have great appreciation for veterans now, and not only veterans but the people that are currently serving," said Paul Oleski. "And I think that's what we really want to do is thank them for serving our country."

"...I guess, just a reminder what they need from us...the older veterans who need things - rides to church, help with doctors' appointments," added Theresa. "And the younger ones who, even though a lot of them come through and they don't have any visible scars, they have scars and they need...they need our support in helping them along the way."

Theresa Oleski said her son had dreams of becoming an environmental engineer and had a passion for "going green" efforts - a focus on conservation and environmental safety which has picked up steam in recent years.
