Hannaford donates $15,000 to area food pantries

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Several area soup kitchens and pantries got a big financial boost to help see them through the holidays.

Hannaford Supermarkets has donated $15,000 in gift cards for the organizations. the donation took place at Mother Marianne's West Side Soup Kitchen in Utica.

The donations are in response to the record number of people seeking a good meal because of the economy, "our whole goal is to feed the people well for at least one meal and healthy we want them to have salads and the government has the food pyramid and we try to work very closely with that," says Deacon Gil Nadeau of Mother Marianne's Soup Kitchen.

Last year, Hannaford raised more than $1 million through its efforts.
