Christmas on Main Street kicks off holiday season in Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Santa and Mrs. Claus kicked off the holiday season in Utica Saturday with Christmas on Main Street at Union Station.

This is the 23rd year for the event that is free for everyone involved. The hot chocolate, cookies and popcorn are all donated by area businesses and all of the workers are volunteers.

Gene Allen, a volunteer for Christmas on Main Street said, "Anytime you have something going on, people are willing to step forward and say hey we really care about our community and we're willing to show it by volunteering our time and putting our efforts into an event of this nature really shine."

Allen says the event is organized by volunteers but they do it in conjunction with the City of Utica and Oneida County.
