Today, flags are being flown at half staff throughout the nation's capitol to remember law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. There's also a wreath laying ceremony for families and loved ones of those being honored.

Each year, law enforcement agencies across the country lose men and women in the line of duty. In just 13 months, central New York has lost two. A memorial this weekend in Washington D.C. honored them all.

The names of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty were dedicated on the walls of the "National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial." Other activities included the 19th annual candlelight vigil on Sunday night to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting others.

U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales delivered the keynote address.

This year's names include 145 officers who died in 2006, plus 237 from earlier years.

Officer Joseph Corr’s family was in attendance for the ceremonies this week. Officer Thomas Lindsey of Utica will be added next year.

The memorial cermonies are part of National Police Week events held annually in Washington, D.C.
