NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Neither the rain nor the recession are keeping shoppers from tackling their holiday shopping on this year's Black Friday.

It's the day when retailers try to move their sales from all this red to the black.

its no exception at Sangertown Square Mall in New Hartford and if you think you're going to find a parking spot, well you'd better think again.

What you will find: recession minded shoppers, buying necessity items like housewares and clothing, along side discounted electronics. Also shoppers paying with cash instead of credit, all with the same target in mind, finding the best Black Friday bargains, "we're here for the experience, yeah we wanted to see what the experience was like. Well this morning, really early, just see see what it was like to go Black Friday shopping," says shopper Dalton Patack.

On this, the busiest retail day of the year, shoppers are making their lists and checking off items twice, hoping to find those deals that are, you guessed it, nice, "our TV's went really quickly, everybody's asking about zhu zhu pets. Unfortunately we don't have any. Other than that a lot of toys games, electronics, that sort of thing," says Target Store Manager Mike Jacobs.

Despite massive crowds, shoppers were nice, waiting patiently out in the rain, in long lines, both to get into stores and to get out.

Retailers are full of hope that shoppers will continue buying this holiday season but with the jobless rate at 10.2% many analysts expect total sales will be at best about even with a year ago.
