HERKIMER - An Ilion man was sentenced to ten years in State Prison after entering guilty pleas to one count of aggravated assault on a police officer and two counts of second-degree assault.

David Plunkett, 43, of Ilion was arrested after an incident that occurred on September 18, 2006, the Herkimer County District Attorney's office said.

The district attorney's office said Plunkett resisted arrest and caused injury to Village of Ilion police officers when he struck, bit, and kicked the police officers while they attempted to arrest him.

In addition to the prison sentence, Plunkett was also sentenced to a five year period of post release supervision on each of the charges.
