HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Herkimer County's latest efforts to register and track guns in the county came under review Wednesday morning.
Senator James Seward met with the county sheriff Wednesday morning to go over the county's new pistol license and weapons tracking program.
The system has recently been computerized to help the sheriff's office keep track not only of who pistols are licensed in the area but also how many and what other weapons they have licensed.
And taxpayers can rest easy - the money for the new system comes from a $10,000 Justice Assistance grant handed down last year by the state.
"Whatever resources we can bring to the table from the state level, to assist our local police agencies, means that this public safety can be enhanced without hitting local taxpayers and local budgets," Senator Seward said.
