Man charged twice in a week for DWI involved in fatal 1998 crash
ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Rome man who was recently arrested twice in less than a week on drunk driving charges was involved in a fatal crash more than a decade ago.
Scott Hoffman, 39, was involved in a DWI-related crash that killed a man back in 1998. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DWI and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Prosecutors said he received six months jail time and five years probation. However, he was sentenced to one to three years in state prison when he violated parole by having a crack pipe in his car just a few months after the fatal crash that killed John E. Hughes of Kirkland. Police said they saw 39-year old Scott Hoffman stumbling near his car Sunday at St. Luke's Hospital in New Hartford. Police said officers at the scene gave him a field sobriety test which he failed. Police said they also found an open container of beer in his car. Last week, they say Hoffman hit a guide-rail on Route 840. |
