NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The day after Christmas is one of the busiest for retailers and that was no exception in Central New York. People packed into the Herb Philipson's Store in the New Hartford Shopping Center.

Store manager Gave Platukis says he has been seeing returns for several days actually. He said, "We had a lot of returns prior to Christmas, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday."

Platukis attributes the early returns to "exchanging of gifts early, probably, people holding get togethers last weekend."

If you are headed to return something, the key is to have the original receipt or a gift receipt, that way you will get the full amount that was paid for the item.

If you do not have a receipt, you may not be allowed to return an item, or in most cases, be given the lowest price of the item during the last 30 days, or however long the particular store's return policy is good for.

While people are returning, they often buy something else, and can often get more for their money with so many after Christmas sales.
