NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - New Hartford Police have arrested a man they say tried to make off with electronic items from Target.

Investigators were called to the scene around 5:00 Tuesday afternoon. Target personnel say they saw the man use a knife to cut off the security devices from various electronic items and open the packaging with the knife.

When police arrived, they stopped him as he tried to get in a parked vehicle.

Investigators say Edward Beauvais Jr., 30, was found in possession of seven store items, a large box cutter knife and a pair of steel shears they say he had used inside the store.

Beauvais is now charged with petit larceny and possession of burglars tools.

He's been sent to the Oneida County Jail on $1,000 bail.
