Bridgewater woman released from hospital following attack

BRIDGEWATER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Bridgewater woman has been released from the hospital following an early morning attack Tuesday, said State Police Lieutenant Todd Stratton.

Police have identified the victim as 62 year-old Susan Dote. A family member tells NEWSChannel 2 that Dote was hit three times with a sledgehammer.

Investigators say the incident happened around 8:00a.m. at a home at 9922 Route 20 in Bridgewater. They say Dote was leaving, she was surprised by a white male about 5'8" to 5'10" tall, wearing a black trench coat, white sneakers and a dark ski mask, who hit her with an unknown object before stealing her purse.

Neighbors are being interviewed by investigators.

The State Police Forensic Unit is on the scene collecting evidence and will examine the hammer, which was left behind.
