Students learn about nursing careers

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Kids got the opportunity to see firsthand just what goes on inside a hospital.

Local students from Remington Elementary School in Ilion were at Saint Elizabeth College of Nursing, learning about what nurses do. It's a part of the elementary's "Community Helpers" program.

There were lots of hands on activities and also role playing to help students learn. Their teacher, Gina Scaparo, says the purpose of the trip is two fold, "I hope it alleviates their fears for when they have to go to the hospital. Also it gets them a bit more knowledgeable as to what our nurses do for them and our community," she said.

After the trip the students will give oral presentations to their fellow students and talk about what they want to be when they grow up.
