Tops likely to come out on top in Penn Traffic bid war

By WKTV News

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A deal between bankrupt Penn Traffic and Tops Markets may be all but assured.

According to the Syracuse newspaper the Post Standard, Price Chopper is holding out little hope for its bid to buy 22 north country P & C supermarkets.

The news comes as Penn Traffic approved a buyout by Tops to acquire all 79 stores that the company owns. Company officials are awaiting the green light by a Delaware bankruptcy judge.

An auction for Penn Traffic's holdings is set to take place later this month.
