HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The wife of Donato Nappi testified Wednesday that she "was afraid something was going to happen" and that is why she tipped off authorities that her husband was in possession of a gun.

During the trial Wednesday Janice Nappi told prosecutors she knew that her husband was in possession of a gun, and that she hid it on him. Nappi later said she called police on January 5th 2009 to tell them about the gun and that she had moved the gun.

Donato Nappi's attorney Christopher Pelli then started his questioning of Janice Nappi, during which he asked her if her father, who died in 2008 owned a gun and left it to her. Appalled by the question Janice Nappi sternly said "do not go there... don't try and blame this on a man who never owned a gun."

The prosecution then re-questioned Mrs. Nappi, asking her to recall conversations she had with her husband while he was in jail. According to Janice Nappi's testimony, Donato Nappi told her to "just say it was your father's" in reference to the gun. Janice Nappi went on to testify her husband told her to say "No one will ever know (be)cause your father is dead."

Janice Nappi then looked right at Donato Nappi and said "that hurt me Danny, right to the core."

Donato Nappi is facing one count of criminal possession of a weapon, a charge that violates his parole. Nappi is on parole after serving 26 years in prison for murdering Dawn Grillo in 1979.
