Man falls through ice while snowshoeing

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Durhamville man is lucky to be alive after he fell through an icy pond.

It all started when Joseph Wagner, 56, went out snowshoeing in Rome Wednesday night.

Authorities say he only planned on being out for an hour but when it got dark he became disoriented. They say he fell through some ice and into water.

Soaked and freezing, Wagner got out his cell phone and called 911.

He's now recovering at home.
