Press Conference Held Concerning Wednesday's Near Drowning

By Laurie Benedict

Eleven-year-old Jessica Fortson remains in critical condition tonight after a near drowning at a New Hartford pool on Wednesday. Today, members of the pool board held a news conference to discuss the incident.

The president of the board of the Woodberry Hills Swim Club expressed her concern for the family of Jessica and thanked the lifeguard staff for what she called a heroic act.

Meanwhile, New Hartford Police continue to interview people who were at the pool.

Newschannel 2 was told that Fortson was in water over her head and that an on-duty lifeguard pulled her out in a matter of seconds.

Investigators are gathering information but that doesn't mean there's a criminal case.

The pool is expected to be open to members on Monday.
