UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The former treasurer of a small, rural library and a local Kiwanis Club has admitted to stealing from both.

Lawrence Recor pleaded guilty to second degree grand larceny today in Oneida County Court. Members of the Erwin Library Board of Directors suspected Recor was stealing money. They terminated his employment, and Recor was arrested after a nine-month investigation. Prosecutors say he wrote unauthorized checks between 2005 and 2008, totaling more than 288 thousand dollars. Record today also pleaded guilty to third degree grand larceny for stealing from the Boonville Kiwanis Club-another place where he served as treasurer.

Judge Michael Dwyer told Recor that if he sentenced him today, he'd have given him five to 15 years in prison. Dwyer told him that if he makes substantial restitution by his March 3rd sentencing, he may consider a lighter prison sentence.
