NYSP: Man ejected from snowmobile, hospitalized after landing after jump

WATERVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Waterville man was sent to the hospital Friday night after police say he lost control of his snowmobile after going over a mound of snow.

According to New York State Police, 43-year-old Richard Rockwell was traveling north on CNY Snow Travelers Trail C7 when he went over a mound of snow and went flying into the air.

Troopers say the sled landed upright but the force of the impact caused Rockwell to eject from the vehicle.

Rockwell was sent to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with a back injury.

An investigation into the accident is underway by New York State Troopers but they say that excessive speed may have contributed to the accident. No tickets have been issued.

Coincidentally on Friday, the CNY Snow Travelers group requested that snowmobilers stay off trails in Southern Oneida County until more snow can fall.
